Just in case you're confused about combining solo categories, here's an example: The first-place finisher in the men's Pro Open category-Rob Racer-does 15 laps in 11 hours, 10 minutes; the second-place finisher-Bill Bomber-does 14 laps in 11 hours 20 minutes; and the first-place finisher in men's Amateur Sport-Bob Biker does 15 laps in 11 hours 25 minutes. The state championship places would be awarded to Rob Racer - First, Bob Biker - Second, and Bill Bomber - Third, because Bob completed one more lap than Bill. Bob Biker would come in first in the Cowbell Amateur Sport category, and Bill Bomber would come in second in the Cowbell Pro Open category.
The team categories work the opposite way. Juniors and Masters teams will be combined into the appropriate gender category for the Cowbell Challenge placements. So a Men's Masters team will compete for Master's trophies in the State Championship, but would compete with all other Men's Multi-teams for the Cowbell Challenge trophies.

The Cowbell Challenge has always been something special. It's more than just top-notch competition on the toughest course in Metrolina.... It's giving back to local, regional and national communities by supporting programs, research and treatment efforts for cancer, head and spinal injury, juvenile diabetes and other catastrophic illnesses. And, It's giving back to the mountain biking community by supporting great organizations that provide trail-building and maintenance, education and safety awareness programs.
In 2007, the efforts of volunteers, racers and sponsors allowed us to donate more than $4,000 to Lance Armstrong Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Dirt Divas, the Tarheel Trailblazers, and the US National Whitewater Center. Thanks to everyone for an absolutely fantastic year! You've set the bar high for 2008 .... do we hear $6,000? Set up a fundraising page, bug your family, coworkers, friends and neighbors. Jump on your bike and ride for those who need you.
